Capital Health has been recognized by the Lown Institute for its social responsibility, particularly in health equity. The Lown Hospitals Index evaluated over 3,100 hospitals nationwide, with Capital Health Regional Medical Center (RMC) in Trenton ranking first in New Jersey for racial inclusivity and receiving high grades for community benefit. Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell also received an 'A' grade and ranked among the top five in the state for patient safety.

Dr. Eric Schwartz of Capital Health stated, "Capital Health’s commitment to providing high-quality, equitable care to the people of Trenton and neighboring communities goes back more than 130 years." He emphasized that recognition from the Lown Institute validates their staff's hard work and reaffirms their tradition of healthcare excellence.

Dr. Vikas Saini, president of the Lown Institute, noted, "Great care is only great if everyone can access it," highlighting the importance of hospitals being strong community partners.

The rankings are based on key metrics measuring social responsibility. RMC received 'A' grades across several categories including racial inclusivity and community benefit. It ranked number one in New Jersey and within the top 10 nationally for racial inclusivity. Both RMC and Hopewell were noted as top hospitals for fair share spending due to efforts such as free education programs and improvements to social determinants of health.

The Lown Institute was founded by Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Bernard Lown. It conducts research aimed at bridging gaps between public policy solutions and improved healthcare access. The Lown Hospitals Index assesses U.S. hospitals on social responsibility using measures like racial inclusivity and pay equity.
