MCPC wants to thank @newjerseyforestfire for once again making our prescribed burn at Mercer Meadows a huge success! With their help we burned just over 200 acres of grassland and young forest understory to control invasives and foster native plant growth.
Fire has naturally shaped our ecosystems for thousands of years and since returning fire to the landscape 4 years ago we are already seeing positive impacts on our native plants and animals. Take a walk through Mercer Meadows in the next few weeks and watch for wildlife using the burned meadows and watch as the blackened ground turns into a wash of new green growth!
