Governor Murphy responds to global tech outage affecting key services

Governor Murphy has addressed a global technology outage involving CrowdStrike software and Microsoft operating systems. The incident has affected flights, banking operations, businesses, and critical services like 911 call centers.

The State Emergency Operations Center was activated at 3:00 a.m. to manage the disruptions. Guidance has been given to executive branch agencies on handling the situation. County and local governments, as well as utilities and 911 call centers, are being engaged to assess impacts and provide assistance.

Governor Murphy stated, "I have been briefed on the global technology outage involving CrowdStrike software and Microsoft operating systems, which has grounded flights, disrupted banks, and slowed the work of businesses and critical services including 911 call centers."

He also mentioned that he requested updates from his senior team throughout the day. This team includes Laurie Doran, Director of the Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness; Colonel Pat Callahan, New Jersey State Police Superintendent; and Chris Rein, Chief Technology Officer.
