Governor Phil Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy, along with a delegation from New Jersey, are currently in the United Kingdom for an economic mission organized by Choose New Jersey. The focus of their visit is to strengthen partnerships and investments in science, technology, and clean energy between New Jersey and the UK.
The delegation participated in a roundtable discussion with BritishAmerican Business (BAB), which is the main transatlantic trade association incorporating chambers of commerce from both nations. This meeting highlighted initiatives like the Princeton AI Hub and Strategic Innovation Centers. Craig Arnold, Vice Dean for Innovation at Princeton University, was among the speakers.
First Lady Tammy Murphy engaged in a separate roundtable focused on women in technology. She emphasized New Jersey's strategic advantages for women entrepreneurs, citing its location, skilled workforce, and resources available to women-led organizations.
A key event during the trip was a climate meeting where Governor Murphy signed a Memorandum of Understanding with The Climate Group. This MOU brings New Jersey into the Under2 Coalition, aiming for global net zero emissions by 2050. It aligns with New Jersey’s target of achieving 100% clean energy by 2035 and facilitates collaboration between academic institutions in both regions to work on reducing CO2 emissions.
Governor Murphy stated: “Over the past few years, we have made generational investments into building out our state’s offshore wind industry and creating thousands of good-paying jobs for our state’s workers. By 2040, we plan on generating 11 gigawatts of clean energy through offshore wind alone.” He also noted that solar energy capacity is expected to exceed 5 gigawatts soon: “That number will only grow in the years to come. So, from offshore wind to solar to modernizing our energy grid, New Jersey is blazing forward in our efforts to build a cleaner, more sustainable, and more prosperous state.”
