Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin has announced the appointment of Eric L. Gibson and Jeffrey J. Manis as co-directors of the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability's (OPIA) Corruption Bureau. The appointments were made public today, with both individuals assuming their roles on October 21, 2024.
Gibson was previously a partner at Post & Schell, P.C., where he chaired the Internal Investigations & White-Collar Defense Practice Group. His background includes serving as deputy chief of the Corruption and Civil Rights Unit at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He has prosecuted high-profile cases such as that of former U.S. Congressman Chaka Fattah Sr., who was convicted in a racketeering conspiracy.
Manis, currently OPIA Corruption Bureau Chief, has extensive experience in prosecuting complex white-collar cases involving public corruption and government fraud. His past work includes leading investigations against notable figures like former Newark Deputy Mayor Carmelo Garcia.
Attorney General Platkin expressed confidence in their abilities: “The prosecution team frequently finds itself in the spotlight as it holds powerful individuals and institutions accountable.” Drew Skinner, Executive Director of OPIA, added, “Eric Gibson and Jeff Manis both bring substantial public corruption prosecutorial experience to their new roles.”
Gibson commented on his new position by saying, “Public corruption sows distrust... That is why it is so critical to hold offenders to account.” Meanwhile, Manis stated his commitment to combating misuse of power: “Our office will tirelessly pursue those who misuse positions of power and public resources for unlawful ends.”
Both Gibson and Manis will report directly to Drew Skinner, who became Executive Director in April 2024 after serving as Senior Counsel to General Platkin.
