AG’s Office Identifies Decedent and Officers Involved in Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Hamilton Township

TRENTON – The Attorney General’s Office has released information regarding a fatal police-involved shooting that took place in Hamilton Township, New Jersey, on March 8, 2024. The decedent has been identified as Vincent Correa, 44, of Hamilton. The officers involved in the shooting were Officer Derek Fiabane and Officer Paul Piromalli from the Hamilton Township Police Department.

According to reports, the incident unfolded when uniformed officers responded to a 911 call about a domestic dispute at a residence on Orchard Avenue in Hamilton Township at approximately 10:07 p.m. During the encounter, Mr. Correa opened fire on the officers with a rifle, injuring one officer. In response, the officers returned fire, resulting in the fatal wounding of Mr. Correa. A rifle and a handgun were recovered from Mr. Correa's person.

Despite efforts to save his life, Mr. Correa was pronounced deceased at the scene at 10:38 p.m. The injured officer was transported to a hospital and is reported to have sustained non-fatal injuries.

This investigation is being carried out in accordance with Attorney General Directive 2019-4, which mandates that the Attorney General’s Office investigates any death that occurs during an encounter with a law enforcement officer or while the deceased is in custody. The directive also establishes clear standards and procedures for conducting such investigations.
