New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and New York City Mayor Eric Adams expressed their excitement as the Host Region of New York New Jersey (NYNJ) was chosen to host the FIFA World Cup 26™ Final and seven other matches at the New York New Jersey Stadium (MetLife Stadium) in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Governor Murphy, a lifelong soccer fan, stated, "As an advocate for this region, and a lifelong soccer fan, I am thrilled that FIFA chose to place their trust in New York New Jersey to host the historic FIFA World Cup 26 Final." Mayor Adams added, “The FIFA World Cup 26 Final will be a generation-defining moment for New York New Jersey, and there’s no better place to host the world’s biggest game than the world’s biggest stage.”

New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy also shared her enthusiasm, saying, "New Jersey is thrilled to host eight matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with our New York neighbors."

The co-host city managers of the FIFA World Cup 26™ NYNJ Host Committee, Bruce Revman and Lauren LaRusso, highlighted the region's readiness to provide an exceptional experience, stating, “Our region’s world-class venues, transportation accessibility, and iconic cultural attractions will deliver the ultimate fan and player experience. This will be an epic celebration throughout our diverse and vibrant community."

The FIFA World Cup 26™ is expected to bring significant economic benefits to the NYNJ region, with matches projected to generate over $2 billion in economic impact and support over 14,000 jobs. Additionally, the tournament is anticipated to attract over 1 million visitors to the region.

In light of this achievement, landmarks across the region will be illuminated in green to mark the occasion, including the Empire State Building, One World Trade Center, and MetLife Stadium.
