Owner agrees to penalties over unlicensed practice allegations at Passaic County spa
TRENTON – Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin and the Division of Consumer Affairs announced today that Rasha Abdul N. Basuf, owner of the now-defunct Skyn Spa in Clifton, has agreed to pay a $10,000 civil penalty and accept a 10-year ban on operating a skin care specialty spa in New Jersey. This agreement resolves allegations that Basuf unlawfully provided invasive aesthetic treatments that only licensed medical professionals are authorized to perform.

This legislation establishes various rights and protections for domestic workers, including anti-discrimination measures, privacy rights, and written contract requirements. These provisions apply to domestic workers providing in-home services such as child care, house cleaning, elder or disabled care, cooking, and more.

New Jersey co-leads effort defending Title IX protections against sex-based discrimination
Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin announced that New Jersey, California, and Pennsylvania have filed a series of amicus briefs in federal courts this month to defend Title IX’s protections against sex-based discrimination and harassment in education. These briefs aim to support the U.S. Department of Education's "Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Sex in Education Programs or Activities Receiving Federal Financial Assistance," which explicitly protects transgender students from sex discrimination and harassment based on gender identity.

New Jersey files suit against Ironworkers Local 11 over alleged discriminatory practices
Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin and the Division on Civil Rights (DCR) announced today that DCR has filed a complaint in Superior Court against Ironworkers Local 11, a New Jersey labor union, for allegedly violating the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (LAD). The complaint accuses the union of creating and maintaining a hostile work environment and systematically bypassing Black union members for jobs, giving them less desirable assignments.
