Following the indictment of former Senator Robert Menendez by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, an internal inquiry was conducted by the New Jersey Attorney General's Office. The investigation aimed to determine if any representative from the office or the Department of Law and Public Safety was involved in wrongful conduct. The inquiry concluded with no findings of misconduct among current or former members.

Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin stated, "Despite Mr. Menendez’s attempts to interfere with criminal matters handled by this Office, he was ultimately unsuccessful."

Platkin emphasized the importance of the work done by the Department of Law and Public Safety, describing it as critical and sensitive for promoting public safety in the country. He highlighted that those working in this department are dedicated public servants committed to justice and doing what is right.

"As the head of this department, it is my job – just as it was the job of everyone who held this position before me – to shield this Department from all external influences so that the people who work here can do their jobs in service to the residents of New Jersey without fear or favor," Platkin stated.

He also commended former Attorneys General Gurbir Grewal and Andrew Bruck for their years of service, noting they were exemplary public servants.
