Governor Murphy criticized the ruling, stating that it has "wiped out four decades of legal precedent" and weakened the federal government's ability to safeguard citizens' health and well-being. He warned that this change could lead to significant consequences across various sectors including climate change, workplace safety, and gun safety. According to him, the decision grants un-elected judges excessive power to override decisions made by federal agency experts.

Murphy emphasized that despite this ruling, New Jersey will persist in developing policies grounded in scientific research and data. He called for state leaders to resist ideologically-driven changes with "restraint and reason," assuring New Jersey residents of their commitment to evidence-based governance.
