Acting Governor Tahesha Way expressed her sorrow over the passing of Congressman Bill Pascrell. She reflected on the mentorship and friendship he extended to her during her early years on the Passaic County Board of Commissioners. "I am deeply saddened by the passing of Congressman Bill Pascrell," she stated.
Way praised Pascrell's long-standing service as a representative in Congress for nearly three decades and his dedication to New Jersey. She highlighted his contributions to the community, noting that he was "a force for good in New Jersey" and commended his previous roles as a member of the New Jersey General Assembly, Mayor of Paterson, and an educator after serving nine years in the Army.
She also emphasized Pascrell's connection to Passaic County, describing him as someone who had opportunities beyond New Jersey but chose to dedicate his life to his home state. "To those of us who call Passaic County home, he will always be the sandlot player, who grew up to have a real shot at the big leagues, but chose New Jersey instead," Way remarked.
In her statement, Way extended condolences to Pascrell's family: "Our heartfelt prayers are with his wife Elsie, their three children — Bill, David, and Glenn — and six grandchildren during this difficult time."
