New Jersey strengthens tech ties with India through new memorandum

Lieutenant Governor Tahesha Way has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) involving the New Jersey Department of State, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and Rowan University. The agreement aims to enhance research and development ties between India and New Jersey's technology sectors.

Lieutenant Governor Way emphasized the significance of this partnership: “We have a longstanding and continuously growing partnership with India, and this MOU further solidifies our connection to its booming technology industry,” she said. “We look forward to creating new opportunities together, driving innovation, and fostering growth for both regions."

New Jersey is recognized as a global hub with significant cultural and educational links to India. The state hosts over 10,000 technology companies and is noted for having the highest concentration of scientists and engineers in the U.S. Rowan University contributes significantly to this environment by nurturing talent in engineering, cybersecurity, and health sciences through research and partnerships.

Mr. Rikant Pittie from CII highlighted the importance of such collaborations: "This partnership represents a significant step forward in strengthening the ties between India and New Jersey," he stated. "Collaborations like these are vital to fostering innovation, driving economic growth, and providing a global platform for the exchange of ideas and expertise."

Ali A. Houshmand, President of Rowan University, also commented on the collaboration: “At Rowan University, we are committed to advancing innovation through impactful research and global partnerships," he said.

Wesley Mathews from Choose New Jersey noted the broader implications: “This agreement is a testament to New Jersey’s commitment to being a global leader in technology and innovation,” he remarked.

The MOU signing was part of the inaugural economic mission organized by the New Jersey-India Commission along with Choose New Jersey.
