Governor Phil Murphy, alongside Choose New Jersey, has completed a five-day economic mission to the United Kingdom. This visit aimed to strengthen ties and explore new opportunities in technology, clean energy, and life sciences between New Jersey and the UK.

New Jersey is currently the leading U.S. state for UK foreign direct investment. The mission included strategic discussions with UK officials to promote international investment as a means of creating jobs in New Jersey. Governor Murphy emphasized that this mission has bolstered the commitment between New Jersey and the UK to foster economic growth through innovation.

The delegation participated in discussions with business groups such as the Association of British Healthtech Industries (ABHI) and BritishAmerican Business (BAB). These meetings provided an opportunity for state leaders to present New Jersey's advantages as a business location.

Two Memoranda of Understanding were signed during the trip. One was between Climate Group and New Jersey, focusing on shared climate goals. As part of this agreement, New Jersey joined Climate Group’s Under2 Coalition aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The second MOU was signed by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) and the UK's Investment Association (IA), promoting FinTech collaboration between New Jersey and London.

Tim Sullivan, CEO of NJEDA, stated that "this economic mission to the UK has underscored New Jersey’s commitment to being at the forefront of global innovation." He noted that agreements made during this mission would enhance FinTech collaboration and environmental progress.

Governor Murphy also delivered a keynote interview hosted by Financial Times on artificial intelligence, where he outlined plans for positioning New Jersey as a leader in AI development.

The delegation explored potential collaborations with research institutions like West Cambridge Innovation District and Cambridge Biomedical Campus. First Lady Tammy Murphy engaged with sustainability initiatives led by Thames Estuary Growth Board and participated in discussions focused on women in tech.

The United Kingdom remains one of New Jersey’s top markets for business attraction, with 146 UK companies operating within its borders, generating over 12,000 jobs. Wesley Mathews from Choose New Jersey highlighted that deepening partnerships will drive economic growth for both regions.

The visit concluded with Governor Murphy attending a U.S. Veterans Day Event at Cambridge American Cemetery.
