The Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OPIA) is conducting an investigation into a fatal car accident that occurred on October 18, 2024, in Holland Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. The deceased has been identified as Scott Segreaves Jr., 20, from Zuni, Virginia.

Preliminary findings indicate that around 10:24 p.m., Mr. Segreaves was driving on Water Street in Milford Borough when New Jersey State Police Staff Sergeant Nicholas Pryszlak attempted to catch up with him for a speeding violation. Both vehicles turned left onto Stamets Road where Sgt. Pryszlak activated his lights and sirens. Mr. Segreaves continued driving until his vehicle was out of sight, prompting Sgt. Pryszlak to deactivate his lights and sirens. Approximately 30 minutes later, Mr. Segreaves' overturned vehicle was found off the road and down an embankment at Stamets Road and Gallmeier Road in Holland Township. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

This update follows information released on October 21, 2024, by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office which initially investigated the crash before notifying OPIA.

The investigation remains ongoing with no further details available at this time.

According to a law enacted in 2019, N.J.S.A. 52:17B-107(a)(2), the Attorney General’s Office must investigate any death occurring during an encounter with law enforcement or while in custody. These investigations are presented to a grand jury to decide if there is sufficient evidence for indictment against involved officers.
