Nilufer K. Shroff will step down as Princeton University's vice president and chief audit and compliance officer at the end of the academic year, concluding a tenure that began in 2007. Shroff will transition to a special projects role within the Office of the Executive Vice President until December 31, 2025, before retiring.

With over 35 years in her field, Shroff has made significant contributions to Princeton's audit and compliance functions during her time at the University. She enhanced internal audit and compliance practices, including work with the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory.

President Christopher L. Eisgruber praised Shroff's impact on the University: “Nilu Shroff's outstanding work will benefit Princeton for generations: she has served this University with distinction and transformed our approach to audit and compliance.”

The Office of Audit and Compliance (OAC), under Shroff’s leadership, played a key role in safeguarding University assets. Eisgruber added that OAC became “a proactive, trusted adviser” offering innovative solutions across campus.

Shroff led efforts such as establishing a risk assessment framework for identifying institutional risks. Her collaboration with various committees helped guide Princeton’s risk strategy and priorities.

Executive Vice President Katie Callow-Wright acknowledged Shroff’s strategic influence: “The combination of Nilu's passion for her area of expertise and her dedication... makes her a powerful steward of University resources.”

During her tenure, Shroff directed high-impact projects addressing financial exposure, IT systems security, business system implementation reviews, and compliance assurance audits.

A quality assurance review by the Institute of Internal Auditors commended OAC under Shroff for its integral governance role at Princeton.

Reflecting on her career at Princeton, Shroff expressed gratitude for working in an environment committed to integrity: “At Princeton, there is a shared commitment to always doing the right thing... I am deeply grateful for this environment.”

Shroff attributed much success to her team’s resilience during challenging times like COVID-19: “My team members are thought of as problem solvers... thoughtful advisers.”

Before joining Princeton, she held roles at the University of Pennsylvania and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. In India, she worked as a public accountant and faculty member affiliated with the University of Mumbai.

Opus Partners is tasked with finding Shroff's successor at Princeton.
