Princeton Summer Theater (PST) has announced its 2024 season, featuring a trio of main-stage productions and continued children's programming. The season will open on June 13 and run through August 3 at Hamilton Murray Theater on the Princeton University campus.
Layla Williams, Class of 2025, is the artistic director for this year’s season. “The main-stage season invites our audiences to engage with the power of adopting a new perspective, even if it is just for an evening,” she said.
The main-stage lineup includes a reimagined "Dracula," Jason Robert Brown's musical "The Last Five Years," and Daniel Beaty’s one-actor play "Emergency." The children’s program will feature “Granny’s Home: A Fairytale Mystery,” written by John Venegas Juarez '25.
Williams elaborated on the significance of the plays: "Maybe we see the monsters among us more clearly, the complexities of fate and love from both broken perspectives of a relationship, or the incredulity of our nation's history when put in a modern context."
The season opens with Kate Hamill's adaptation of "Dracula" from June 13-30. Eliana Cohen-Orth, a 2021 graduate who has directed numerous PST productions, will direct. Williams described Hamill's script as a whimsical “feminist revenge fantasy.”
"The Last Five Years" will run from July 4-21. This musical follows the relationship between Catherine Hiatt and Jamie Wellerstein in two directions: Catherine moving backward from its tumultuous end and Jamie moving forward from their joyful beginning. Eliyana Abraham, also a 2023 graduate who served as PST artistic director last year, directs this production.
The final main-stage production is "Emergency," running from July 25-August 3. Directed by Williams herself, this play explores “the chaos that ensues when a 400-year-old relic washes upon New York City's shores.” Destine Harrison-Williams stars in this production.
Children's programming continues with “Granny’s Home: A Fairy Tale Mystery” running Friday through Sunday mornings from July 5-28. The show involves iconic fairy tale characters solving clues to find out who destroyed Granny’s home.
