TRENTON — The Attorney General’s Office has released the identities of the individuals involved in a fatal crash that occurred in Southampton Township, New Jersey, on April 9, 2024.
According to the Attorney General's Office, the civilian who tragically lost his life in the collision has been identified as Frank Lando, Jr., a 65-year-old resident of Toms River, New Jersey.
In the incident, New Jersey State Police Trooper Anthony Fernandes was conducting patrol duties on Route 70 when his marked police vehicle collided with Mr. Lando in the area of Burrs Mill Road in Southampton. Mr. Lando was subsequently transported to Virtua Mount Holly Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at approximately 12:45 p.m. Trooper Fernandes, fortunately, did not sustain significant injuries in the crash.
The circumstances surrounding the fatal crash are currently under investigation, as stated by the Attorney General’s Office. The investigation is being carried out in accordance with Attorney General Directive 2019-4, which mandates that the Attorney General’s Office conducts investigations into any deaths that occur during encounters with law enforcement officers while acting in their official capacity or while the deceased is in custody.
At this time, the investigation is ongoing, and no further information has been disclosed regarding the incident.
