The University community came together to raise funds for the United Way of Greater Mercer County, with a total of $98,432.38 collected during the 2023 United Way Campaign. According to a report by the University, the funds raised will support various programs focusing on education, financial stability, food insecurity, and health.
Sixty employees volunteered across more than 40 University departments and at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) to make the campaign a success. The volunteers not only organized fundraising events but also conducted supply drives to support the programs of the United Way of Greater Mercer County.
The contributions came from various sources, with $86,951.66 donated by faculty, staff, and retirees. The main campus contributed $70,516.66, PPPL contributed $2,560, and retirees donated $13,875. Additionally, the University matched a portion of the gifts, providing 15 cents on the dollar for payroll deduction contributions and 10 cents on the dollar for all other gifts, resulting in a total University contribution of $11,480.72.
The impact of the donations goes beyond just financial support. Employees also elected to direct their donations to specific UWGMC programs, such as providing meals for the Strike Out Hunger campaign, supplying education kits for local school children, supporting college admission assistance, and contributing to resources for parents before and after childbirth.
All the donations collected will be allocated to United Way programs in Mercer County or employees' home communities, as well as to other health and human services agencies specified by individual donors.
