The Princeton women's basketball team has secured their spot in the upcoming March Madness tournament for the fifth consecutive season. The Tigers, seeded No. 9, will face off against the West Virginia Mountaineers in Iowa City on Saturday, March 23.
The team earned their place in the NCAA postseason tournament after a victory over Columbia in the Ivy Madness championship game. Head coach Carla Berube celebrated her 100th win with the team during this game.
Senior Ellie Mitchell made a significant impact during the tournament, breaking the all-time rebounding record at Princeton and being named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year for the third time in her career. Additionally, senior Kaitlyn Chen and sophomore Madison St. Rose received recognition for their outstanding performances, with Chen being named the Ivy Madness tournament's Most Outstanding Player for the third consecutive year.
Reflecting on the upcoming tournament, Mitchell expressed the team's excitement, stating, "This is March, anything can happen ... We're excited to show everyone what Princeton is all about." Chen highlighted the importance of the team's veteran experience in guiding the younger members through the postseason.
In a separate development, the men's basketball team, after finishing as Ivy League champions, secured a No. 2 seed in the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) and will host the University of Nevada-Las Vegas at Jadwin Gymnasium.
