Governor Phil Murphy has signed Executive Order No. 354, establishing the New Jersey-India Commission. The commission's primary goal is to enhance bilateral trade and investment between New Jersey and India, as well as to foster economic development in both regions. Governor Murphy expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, "I am honored to establish the New Jersey-India Commission to strengthen the cultural and economic ties between New Jersey and India for generations to come."
Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of State Tahesha Way also voiced her support, saying, "I am delighted to join Governor Murphy today to establish the New Jersey-India Commission." She emphasized the importance of the deep-rooted economic, cultural, and societal connections between New Jersey and India, noting that the Indian population in New Jersey enriches the state.
Consul General of India Binaya Srikanta Pradhan highlighted the significance of the partnership between India and New Jersey, calling it a "unique" relationship with vast opportunities. He commended Governor Murphy's efforts in establishing the commission, believing it will further strengthen the economic engagement between the two regions and enhance people-to-people connections.
Wesley Mathews, Chair of the Commission, expressed his excitement about the establishment of the New Jersey-India Commission, emphasizing the shared visions for the economies and peoples of both regions. He looks forward to working with his colleagues to build a stronger partnership between New Jersey and India.
The New Jersey-India Commission will be composed of 35 to 45 members appointed by the Governor, with one Chairperson selected to lead. The commission is expected to provide guidance to the Governor and other New Jersey government agencies. Governor Murphy has already appointed a list of individuals to the commission, representing a diverse range of expertise and backgrounds.
With the establishment of the New Jersey-India Commission, both New Jersey and India are poised to further enhance their economic and cultural ties, paving the way for increased collaboration and mutual growth in the years to come.
