Trenton, N.J. — On Thursday, June 15th, Mayor W. Reed Gusciora, the Trenton Health Team, and the NJ Department of Human Services held a press conference to spread awareness of Medicaid redetermination requirements and encourage Trenton residents to update their addresses with Medicaid.

During the pandemic, NJ Family Care/Medicaid was allowed to keep members on insurance coverage under a continuous enrollment provision, with no action needed for individuals and families to certify their eligibility for the benefit. Anyone covered in March 2020 remains in the program today. However, continuous eligibility has ended, and now, like pre-pandemic operations, individuals must complete redetermination packets, which will be mailed out between April 2023 – March 2024.

Over two million individuals in New Jersey receive coverage from Medicaid, and the number has only increased since the start of the pandemic. Many Trenton residents rely on this program for healthcare. “It is imperative that we take all steps necessary to protect ourselves and our loved ones, and that includes preparing for the future. Renewing your NJ Family Care healthcare benefits is a way to ensure that everyone in the community has the support they need,” said Mayor Gusciora.

Medicaid provides coverage for prescription drugs, doctor visits, hospital stays, mental health services, and more. Under this Department, there is also an NJ Family Care initiative called Cover All Kids that children and students may qualify for – it is for all income-eligible children, regardless of their immigration status.

“Trenton Health Team is committed to working with our partners to ensure that everyone is aware of this critical process and that no one loses coverage if they are still eligible,” noted Trenton Health Team CEO, Gregory Paulsen. At the press conference, Paulson, Mayor Gusciora, and Assistant Commissioner Jennifer Langer Jacobs from the Department of Human Services urged Trenton area residents to update their address by calling 1-800-701-0710 and watch the mail for their redetermination packet.

If residents are uncertain about their benefits or have any questions, they can contact NJ Family Care/Medicaid at 1-800-701-0710, or visit nj.gov/staycoverednj. Renewals will be sent out on a rolling basis and all Medicaid enrollees will receive their packet by March 2024. The City, Trenton Health Team, and the State Department of Human Services will continue to be resources to aid Trenton residents in connecting to the programs and services they need.
