Designing for a Green Future!
This past autumn, naturalists from the Mercer County Park Commission and The Watershed Institute have been meeting with students from the Mercer County Technical School’s Architecture-Engineering-Design class
This collaboration has focused on introducing students to the process of creating a park master plan, while emphasizing the importance of utilizing green infrastructure early in the design process to address drainage issues.
Students have learned how to do a simple site analysis, have searched for impervious surfaces and drainage concerns, and have learned about different types of green infrastructure design.
At our last meeting, students brainstormed ideas for a park plan and then we held a lively mock planning board discussion where students were asked to defend their ideas to focus groups.
