Innovation: 14 patents granted in Princeton in week ending Aug. 15

Patent 17

There were 14 patents granted in Princeton in the week ending Aug. 15, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

This is five more than the week before. Patents included an antibodies against glucocorticoid-induced tumor necrosis factor receptor (gitr) and uses thereof.

The earliest patent filed which was granted in the week ending Aug. 15 belonged to The Trustees of Princeton University who filed in Jan. 27, 2017.

The number of approved patents in the U.S. grew steadily from roughly 225,000 in 2009 to more than 285,000 in 2019. The number of patents approved suffered a slight downturn in 2020.

Gene Quinn with IPWatchdog said the system underneath patents have become unwieldy, specifically for medical innovations.
