The TCNJ women’s soccer team, ranked 20th nationally, played to a 0-0 draw against St. Mary’s (Md.) on Saturday afternoon during the second day of the Seahawk Classic in St. Mary’s City, Maryland. Despite dominating offensively with 19 shots and seven on goal, the Lions were unable to score.

TCNJ’s first major chance came early in the match when Bella Norman sent a shot from long range that was saved by St. Mary’s goalkeeper Kyleigh Bland. Later in the first half, Alyssa Alfano nearly scored for TCNJ but was also denied by Bland, who finished with five saves before halftime.

Throughout the game, Reilyn Carr, Emily Weidner, and Charlotte Hare each had opportunities to break the deadlock for TCNJ. However, Bland continued her strong performance in goal as both teams went into halftime without scoring.

In the second half, neither team managed a shot on target until late in the match when Caroline Mascone turned past a defender and fired towards goal in the 79th minute. Bland made another key save to keep St. Mary’s level.

With only seconds remaining in regulation time, Maggie Murphy’s header struck the crossbar for TCNJ but did not go in, leaving both sides scoreless at full time.

“The Lions outshot St. Mary’s (Md.) 19-0 in the contest, including a 7-0 advantage in shots on goal. TCNJ also held a 6-2 lead in corners.
Seven different players registered a shot on goal for the Lions.
TCNJ has now held an opponent without a single shot in a game at least once in each of the last three seasons.”

Next up for TCNJ is their home opener against NYU on September 6 as part of Day 1 of the TCNJ Classic. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m.
