The TCNJ wrestling team delivered a strong performance at the CUW Invitational in Mequon, Wisconsin, with three athletes winning individual titles and several others earning top placements.
Garrett Totten, Hunter Mays, and D.J. Henry each secured championships in their respective weight classes. Totten advanced to the finals with a series of decisive victories, including a semifinal win over North Central’s Ethan Spacht. In the final, he faced James Day of Wabash and won 4-2 with a third-period takedown.
Mays began his tournament run with a pin and a technical fall before defeating Wartburg’s Heston Johnson 9-6 in the quarterfinals. He then beat Carson Trotzer of UW-Stevens Point by major decision to reach the final against Jaylen Young of Wabash, where he claimed an 8-2 victory.
Henry entered as the nation’s top-ranked wrestler in his division and lived up to expectations. He achieved two technical falls and a pin en route to the title bout, where he defeated Gunnar Garriques of Chicago 8-0.
Other notable performances included Vinnie Santaniello finishing as runner-up at 141 pounds after withdrawing from the championship match due to medical reasons. Matthew Griffin took third place at 125 pounds following wins that included an 18-3 technical fall over Brett Birchman of Wartburg. J.J. Giordano (149) also finished third after defeating teammate Colin Menier in their head-to-head matchup for placement.
Additional place-winners for TCNJ were Menier (fourth at 149), Steve Dalling (fifth at 165), Luke Reitter (fifth at 133), and Matt Coon (sixth at heavyweight). Several other wrestlers contributed pins and wins throughout various brackets during the competition.
The Lions’ results highlight their depth across multiple weight classes as they continue their season.
