TCNJ women’s track and field finishes second at Ithaca Quad meet

The TCNJ women’s track and field team secured a second-place finish at the Ithaca Quad meet held in Ithaca, New York, on Saturday. The competition included teams from Ithaca, Cortland, and Oneonta.

In the distance events, Ava Biemuller finished fifth in the mile with a time of 5:23.15 and later claimed first place in the 3000 meters at 10:43.99. Teagan Walker also placed among the top five in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:54.20.

The Lions achieved several regional-qualifying times during the meet. In the 60-meter hurdles, Sarah Scepkowski finished third (9.28), Mackenzie Burke was fourth (9.36), and Lia Malave came in sixth (9.40), all surpassing qualifying standards.

Rukky Daranijo took second place in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.54. In the 800 meters, Kelly O’Grady won with a time of 2:19.29, while Brenna Omert finished third at 2:19.81; both times met regional-qualifying criteria.

Kelsey Thomas earned another regional qualification by winning the 200 meters in 26.19 seconds, followed by Cameron Ruffini in third at 26.69 seconds.

The Lions’ relay team—composed of Ruffini, O’Grady, Thomas, and Daranijo—finished first in the 4×400 relay with a regional-qualifying time of 4:02.72.

In field events, Allison Lavin placed third in the weight throw (14.86) and fifth in shot put (11.59). Emerson Levins was fifth in pole vault at 3.02 meters.

Sarah Scepkowski led TCNJ’s efforts in long jump with a sixth-place finish (5.02). In triple jump, Lia Malave took third (10.54), Hannah Hafer was fifth (10.19), and Erin McGauley came sixth (10.16).

The team will prepare for next weekend’s Liberty Open scheduled to take place over two days in Lynchburg, Virginia.

The College of New Jersey softball team split its doubleheader against Drew University on March 25. Maya Knasiak led TCNJ to victory with another shutout performance before Drew rallied late to take Game 2. The Lions will next face Rutgers-Newark at home.
