The TCNJ women’s soccer team began its 2025 season with a decisive 4-1 victory over Salisbury on Friday night during the first day of the Seahawk Classic in St. Mary’s City, Maryland.
Ranked 20th nationally, the Lions (1-0) took an early lead by scoring two goals within the opening four minutes of play. Alyssa Alfano scored the first goal at just over two minutes into the match, capitalizing on a turnover by Salisbury and finishing off an assist from Taylor Krott. Shortly after, Krott added a second goal for TCNJ, heading in a corner kick delivered by Alfano.
A series of substitutions midway through the first half gave TCNJ renewed energy, leading to another goal in the 33rd minute. Abby Najdzinowicz headed in a corner kick at the far post to extend the Lions’ lead to 3-0 before halftime.
In the second half, TCNJ continued to pressure Salisbury’s defense but was initially denied further goals by Sea Gulls goalkeeper Hayle Foreman, who made five saves throughout the match. However, an own goal by Salisbury in the 68th minute increased TCNJ’s advantage to 4-0.
Salisbury managed to score once in the 73rd minute, preventing TCNJ goalkeeper Ellen Williams from recording a shutout. Williams finished her first start of the year with four saves.
TCNJ will return for Day 2 of the Seahawk Classic on Saturday, August 30, facing host St. Mary’s (MD) at 3 p.m.
