The TCNJ women’s basketball team concluded its New England road trip with a loss to Rhode Island College on Saturday afternoon, falling 82-70 in Providence.
Amanda Baylock led the Lions in scoring for the second consecutive game, finishing with 15 points. Grace Kowalski added 14 points, while Katie Fricker and Cassidy Brown each contributed 13. Brown also recorded a team-high four assists coming off the bench. On defense, Brooke McFadden and Fricker led TCNJ in rebounds and steals respectively, both tallying five.
Baylock started the game by scoring a three-pointer to give TCNJ an early lead. After a brief tie at five points following a layup from Fricker, Rhode Island College responded with a six-point run to take control of the first quarter. The Anchorwomen extended their advantage to 26-14 after one period.
Brown scored TCNJ’s first six points of the second quarter as the Lions tried to narrow the gap. A short run brought them within seven points, but Rhode Island College answered back and maintained their lead into halftime at 42-35.
In the third quarter, McFadden hit a rare three-pointer that brought TCNJ within five points at 47-42 with just over seven minutes remaining. However, that was as close as they would get for the rest of the game. A final push in the fourth quarter saw TCNJ go on a nine-point run to reduce their deficit to six, but they could not complete the comeback.
Statistically, TCNJ shot 41 percent from the field (25-for-61), including 41.7 percent from three-point range (10-for-24) and made two-thirds of their free throws (10-for-15). Rhode Island College converted on nearly 53 percent of their shots (28-for-53), shot almost 39 percent from deep (7-for-18), and made over 86 percent of their free throws (19-for-22).
TCNJ forced Rhode Island College into committing 25 turnovers and turned those into 28 points. The Lions’ bench also outscored Rhode Island College’s reserves by a wide margin—33 to 11.
For individual performances: Baylock had her team-best scoring output along with one assist and one steal; Fricker filled up her stat line with four rebounds and matched her career high with five steals; Brown posted career highs in both scoring (13) and assists (four).
Rhode Island College was led by Meagan Schuermann’s game-high 27 points along with eight rebounds, three steals, and three blocks. Abby Wager contributed 18 points and nine rebounds while Eva Monahan finished with 13 points.
Notably for TCNJ, Myah Hourigan-Hutton reached an even milestone of exactly 100 career assists after registering two more during this contest.
TCNJ will return home on Wednesday, November 19th for its next matchup against Christopher Newport University.
