The No. 18 TCNJ women’s lacrosse team won against Farmingdale State with an 18-3 victory on Apr. 4, building a double-digit lead in the first quarter and maintaining control throughout the game.
This win is significant as it marks the Lions’ second road victory within a week, improving their season record to 9-1.
Abbie Teefy and Kelly Nevins each recorded seven points, with Teefy scoring three goals and four assists and Nevins contributing five goals and two assists. Marissa Lucca added four goals for TCNJ. Nevins achieved a hat-trick early in the first quarter during a five-goal run that also featured scores from Teefy and Ashly Herlihy. Lucca scored at the seven-minute mark before assisting Emily Potenza’s second goal of the season, followed by additional tallies from Teefy, Gianna Azara—who scored her first collegiate goal—and another from Lucca to close out a dominant opening period.
Nevins extended the lead to 11-0 just seconds into the second quarter before Farmingdale State got on the board. Audrey Searle added her first career goal before halftime as TCNJ led 12-1 at intermission. The Lions continued their momentum in the third quarter with six more goals, including woman-up scores by Azara, Teefy, and Nevins; Sydney Sieja also contributed while Lucca capped off TCNJ’s scoring for the day.
Goalkeeper duties were shared among Hailey Wexler (first half), Kylie Kurtz (third quarter), and Jordyn Landman (fourth). The Lions held a substantial advantage in shots (35-5) and draw controls (17-6), while committing fewer turnovers than their opponents.
Several players reached personal milestones: Teefy set new career highs in points and draw controls; Nevins posted her highest point total; Lucca recorded her first hat-trick after three games without one; Potenza had a career-high three points; Evie Campbell logged two assists for her first multi-assist game; Abby Williams matched Potenza with three caused turnovers; Herlihy had both a goal and an assist; Maria LaPietra caused two turnovers. Williams has entered TCNJ’s top ten single-season list for caused turnovers with 31 this year, while Lucca moved into 21st place all-time for career goals at TCNJ with 158.
Looking ahead, TCNJ will resume New Jersey Athletic Conference play against Kean on Wednesday.
