The TCNJ men’s tennis team defeated Wilkes University in a 7-0 sweep on April 3, led by Harrison Maitland-Carter reaching a significant career milestone.
The victory is notable as Maitland-Carter, partnering with Asa Wong, secured his 69th career doubles win after overcoming Cole Riley and Sebastian Sylvester, 6-4, at number one doubles. This achievement ties him for second in program history alongside assistant coach Mike Klimchak and places him behind only Matthew Michibata’s record of 86 doubles wins.
The Lions, ranked No. 52 and holding a season record of 9-4, completed the match in just over an hour. Nathan Chan and Alberto Thomas won their number two doubles match without conceding a game. Sidd Arudi and Faris Shehata also earned a shutout victory at number three doubles. In singles play, Brett Schuster and Shehata quickly secured double-bagel victories at numbers six and four respectively. Maitland-Carter followed closely with a dominant performance at number two singles.
Aidan Twamley added to the team’s tally with a win at number five singles while Chan triumphed at number three singles. Thomas managed another strong showing by defeating Sylvester on the top court.
Additional milestones were reached during the match: Maitland-Carter tied Corey Ball for sixth all-time in combined victories with his 124th win and moved into sole possession of thirteenth place for career singles wins with his fifty-fifth victory. Thomas entered the program’s top ten for all-time doubles wins (tied for eighth) and tied for fifteenth in total career wins with one hundred eight.
Looking ahead, TCNJ will face No. 50 Ithaca on Saturday.
