The TCNJ men’s swimming team competed in a tri-meet against #14 Johns Hopkins and Washington and Lee University on Friday in Baltimore, Maryland. The Lions lost to Johns Hopkins but secured a victory over Washington and Lee.
During the meet, TCNJ achieved first place in four events and won six events total when matched up against the Blue Jays. The opening 400 medley relay was tightly contested, with the TCNJ A relay team—Andrew Kidchob, Tyler McGeehan, Joe McChesney, and M.J. Hoban—finishing just 0.04 seconds behind Johns Hopkins’ top relay with a time of 3:18.95. This performance earned them first-place points versus Washington and Lee. Kidchob also collected first-place points in the 100 Backstroke by finishing third overall with a time of 50.69.
Gavin Formon delivered TCNJ’s first win of the meet in the 1000 Free (9:36.18) and later placed third in the 500 Free (4:44.72), again securing top points against Washington and Lee.
Tyler McGeehan followed with a victory in the 100 Breaststroke (56.85) and finished second in the 200 Breaststroke (2:04.30), earning additional points for TCNJ over Washington and Lee. In that same event, Gabe Beverini finished fourth (2:09.04) while Dylan Negron came fifth (2:09.34). Beverini later took second place in the 200 IM to pick up first-place points against Johns Hopkins.
M.J. Hoban won the 50 Free with a time of 20.96 seconds and narrowly missed another win in the 100 Free (46.14), finishing one hundredth of a second behind but still collecting first-place points against Johns Hopkins.
Joe McChesney added another victory for TCNJ by winning the 100 Fly with a time of 48.86 seconds, while Pablo Salazar earned first-place points for his third-place finish in the 200 Fly versus Washington and Lee.
The Lions are scheduled to compete next at home against Rowan on Friday, January 16th.
