The TCNJ field hockey team, ranked 23rd nationally, secured a 4-1 victory over DeSales University on Wednesday night in Center Valley, Pennsylvania. This marks the Lions’ first road game of the season and improves their record to 2-0.

The opening quarter saw no goals from either side. Early in the second quarter, TCNJ took the lead when Codie Sciacca assisted Jadyn Huff, who scored just inside the circle. DeSales threatened to equalize in the 23rd minute, but TCNJ goalkeeper Brigitte Racey made three consecutive saves to maintain the Lions’ advantage at halftime.

In the third quarter, TCNJ earned a penalty stroke but was denied by DeSales goalkeeper Alyssa Schlossman. Shortly after, DeSales tied the game on their fourth penalty corner within a minute. However, TCNJ responded quickly as Kara Wilson scored her first goal of the season less than half a minute later to regain the lead for the Lions.

Sciacca contributed again by scoring at 48:27 in the fourth quarter, extending TCNJ’s lead. Wilson added another goal just over a minute later. The Lions’ defense limited DeSales to no shots in the final quarter.

“The Lions outshot DeSales 13-10 including a narrow 10-9 advantage in shots on goal.
The Bulldogs held with an 11-3 edge in corners.
Racey finished with a game-high eight saves – all of which came in the middle quarters – for TCNJ.”

“This was the first multi-goal outing of Wilson’s career – the junior had one goal and one assist to her name before tonight’s game.
Sciacca’s two assists were the first of her collegiate career.”

TCNJ will next play Juniata at home on Saturday, September 6 at 1 p.m.
