The TCNJ baseball team lost a close contest to Ursinus by a score of 2-1 on March 19 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The game marked the final matchup for the Lions during their week-long trip in South Carolina.

This was the second meeting between the two teams in recent weeks, with both games decided by just one run. The Lions now hold a record of 7-10, while Ursinus improves to 13-4.

TCNJ’s pitching staff delivered strong performances throughout the game. Jesse Beer started for the Lions and pitched five innings, allowing only one run and four hits despite having played shortstop extensively earlier in the week. John DiCostanzo took over in the sixth inning and gave up just one run over two innings. Jalen Maharaja also contributed with a scoreless eighth inning.

Offensively, TCNJ struggled early but began to find momentum later in the game. Braden Dromboski broke up Ursinus’ no-hit bid with a single in the fifth inning and later hit a triple that set up TCNJ’s only run. Tim Search Jr. drew a walk to put runners on first and third before Joe Tammaro drove in Dromboski with a single down the left-field line. Despite recording two hits in each of the last two innings, TCNJ could not tie the game. In their final at-bat, an errant throw led to a rundown that resulted in Tammaro being tagged out at home plate for the game’s last out.

Standout performances included Beer pitching five innings with one earned run allowed; Dromboski going 2-for-3 with a triple and scoring once; Tammaro finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI; and Michael Contiliano collecting two hits as well.

Looking ahead, TCNJ will return home to Ewing to open their home schedule against Penn State Berks on Monday, March 23 at 3:30 PM.
