Simons, Ringel qualify for regionals as TCNJ faces Rowan

The TCNJ Women’s Swimming and Diving team completed a two-day dual meet against Rowan in Glassboro, New Jersey. The event featured notable performances from several team members in both swimming and diving.

In the diving events, Beth Evaldi led the Lions with scores of 271.73 on the 1-meter board and 284.40 on the 3-meter board. Hannah Simons secured her spot at regionals by qualifying for the second time on the 1-meter with a score of 255.45 and also posted a score of 244.80 on the 3-meter. Jenna Ringel achieved her first regional qualification scores in both the 1-meter (241.58) and 3-meter (266.25) events, needing one more qualification to advance to regionals.

On the first day of swimming competition, TCNJ swimmers earned six second-place finishes against Rowan’s Profs. In the 1000 freestyle, Katie Mazzacco finished second with a time of 11:11.51, followed by Bella Patti in third at 11:21.45. Shaye Bundonis placed second in the 100 backstroke, while Lilliana Kuball (2:34.05) and Katelyn Gaulin (2:37.70) took second and third respectively in the 200 breaststroke.

Bridget Cleveland narrowly missed a win in the 200 freestyle but set a new personal best with a time of 2:00.49, finishing just one tenth of a second behind first place.

Other notable results from day one included Bundonis taking second place in the 100 butterfly (1:01.51) and Kuball securing runner-up honors in the 200 individual medley (2:17.40).

During day two, Lilliana Kuball provided TCNJ’s only event win over the weekend by capturing first place in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.95 seconds. The team also recorded two second-place finishes and five third-place finishes throughout Saturday’s events.

The day’s individual races began with Mazzacco earning another second-place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:28.71), followed closely by Patti in third (5:31.79). Bundonis added another third-place result in the 200 backstroke (2:13.54), while Gaulin took third in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.91). Mazzacco later finished third again, this time in the 200 butterfly (2:21.66), and Sarah Mandy rounded out top-three individual finishes for TCNJ with her performance in the 400 individual medley (4:56.24).

The meet concluded with TCNJ’s A relay team—composed of Mary Kate Owens, Katie Mazzacco, Emma Zakutney, and Bridget Cleveland—posting a time of 1:44.41 to close out competition strong during their final event.

TCNJ is scheduled to compete next Saturday against Montclair State on senior day.

The College of New Jersey softball team split its doubleheader against Drew University on March 25. Maya Knasiak led TCNJ to victory with another shutout performance before Drew rallied late to take Game 2. The Lions will next face Rutgers-Newark at home.
