Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman, the current U.S. Congress representative for New Jersey’s 12th district, utilized social media to communicate with her constituents regarding various issues. Watson Coleman, who has been serving in Congress since 2015, shared information about upcoming events, her stance on current issues, and legislative initiatives.
On May 2, 2025, Watson Coleman informed her followers of an opportunity to seek assistance with federal agencies by announcing a hybrid office hours event. She stated, “Need assistance with a federal agency? Join my office on Tuesday May 6 from 11 AM to 2 PM on ZOOM or at the Hillsborough Library Branch for hybrid office hours. Scan the code below to RSVP.”
Later that same day, Watson Coleman addressed concerns over attacks on free speech. Her post asserted, “Every attack on free speech is a sign of weakness. They’re doing this because they’re weak. They’re afraid of honest reporting on what they’re doing because they know people don’t like it, and they’re afraid of the power the people hold. It’s not intimidation, it’s cowardice.”
On May 3, 2025, Watson Coleman continued to communicate her legislative efforts by highlighting the introduction of two mental health bills during #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth. She announced, “May is #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth and to help address the devastating mental health crisis, I introduced two bills earlier this year. The Pursuing Equity in Mental Health Act authorizes funding to support research, develop outreach programs and training programs for care.”
Watson Coleman, born in 1945 in Camden, New Jersey, and currently residing in Ewing Township, has not only been a part of the U.S. Congress but also previously served in the New Jersey General Assembly. She graduated with a BA from Thomas Edison State University in 1985.
