Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New Jersey’s 12th district since 2015, has recently shared her thoughts on various issues via social media. Her posts address both current events and broader concerns regarding resource allocation and public safety.

On July 7, 2025, Rep. Coleman expressed her sympathy for those affected by the flooding in Texas. She stated, “Bill and I are praying for all the victims of the flooding in Texas, for grieving families and those suffering in uncertainty.” She emphasized the importance of ensuring that responsible agencies have adequate resources to respond effectively to such disasters.

In another post on the same day, Rep. Coleman highlighted concerns about funding cuts to meteorological research facilities. She remarked on the significance of the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Lab in Princeton by saying, “The Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Lab in Princeton is where the most cutting edge meteorological research happens.” She criticized the Trump administration’s decision to reduce funding and terminate personnel at this institution.

Later that day, Rep. Coleman acknowledged a heroic act by a New Jersey native involved in rescue operations during the Texas floods. She wrote about Scott Ruskan, a Coast Guard rescue swimmer who saved numerous lives: “New Jersey native and Coast Guard rescue swimmer Scott Ruskan and his team saved 165 people in Texas during his first rescue mission with the USCG.” Rep. Coleman expressed gratitude for his courage and service.

Bonnie Watson Coleman was born in Camden, New Jersey in 1945 and currently resides in Ewing Township. A graduate of Thomas Edison State University with a BA earned in 1985, she has been serving as a U.S Congress member since succeeding Rush Holt Jr., after having served previously in the New Jersey General Assembly from 2006 to 2010.
