Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing New Jersey’s 12th district, recently shared her views on various topics through social media posts. Her tweets reflect her ongoing advocacy and positions on substance abuse treatment, support for federal workers, and religious freedom.
On June 5, 2025, Rep. Coleman reiterated her commitment to a health-based approach to substance abuse disorder. She stated that throughout her tenure in Congress, she has advocated for an approach that focuses on healing rather than criminal justice. In her words: “For my entire tenure as a Member of Congress, I have been an advocate for taking a holistic, health-based approach to substance abuse disorder; one that focuses on healing and not criminal justice, and that puts the necessary resources into recovery.”
Later that day, Rep. Coleman expressed her support for federal workers following a meeting with John Da Silva from AFGE National. She highlighted the essential role these workers play in maintaining vital services across the country: “I had a great meeting earlier with John Da Silva of @AFGENational Federal workers keep our country functioning. They keep our water fresh, our air clean, and our food safe. I will always proudly support our federal workers.”
On June 6, 2025, Rep. Coleman voiced concerns over issues related to religious freedom within legislative bodies. She emphasized the importance of legislators’ conduct aligning with America’s foundational principles of freedom: “It’s deeply troubling that someone with such contempt for religious freedom is allowed to serve in this body. This should have never been allowed to happen.” She further stated that America was founded as a free nation and urged that its legislators’ conduct should reflect this truth.
Bonnie Watson Coleman has represented New Jersey’s 12th District since 2015 after succeeding Rush Holt Jr., having previously served in the New Jersey General Assembly from 2006 to 2010.
