Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New Jersey’s 12th district since 2015, has shared her thoughts on several significant topics through recent social media posts. Born in Camden, New Jersey in 1945 and residing in Ewing Township, Coleman graduated from Thomas Edison State University with a BA in 1985. Her tweets cover themes ranging from honoring personal heroes to expressing concerns over international actions.
On June 19, Rep. Watson Coleman marked Juneteenth by highlighting some of her personal heroes. She mentioned “my late friend John Lewis and his leadership during the civil rights movement” as well as Shirley Chisholm, who was “the first Black woman elected to the United States Congress.”
In another post dated June 20, she addressed World Refugee Day by urging collective action to support displaced individuals. She stated that “we must as a country come together and recommit to defending the dignity and rights of displaced people.” Emphasizing compassion over cruelty or criminalization, she called it an American duty to lead with humanity.
On June 22, Rep. Watson Coleman expressed concern over recent military actions by the United States. She criticized what she described as “an act of war against a country that posed no imminent threat to our people,” attributing it to “the reckless action of a man who has never understood or respected the responsibilities.”
