Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman, a U.S. Congresswoman representing New Jersey’s 12th district since 2015, criticized House Republicans in a series of tweets posted on May 27, 2026, alleging their legislative priorities do not address the economic needs of Americans.

In her first post, Watson Coleman stated, “Instead of working on legislative solutions to ease the pain on Americans, House Republicans have focused on satisfying this President with funding bills for 2027 that would cut critical support for programs and agencies that keep costs down and provide essential services.” (May 27, 2026).

She continued by asserting that Democrats have tried to ensure oversight in government funding while facing Republican opposition: “While Democrats have ensured administration Secretaries receive funding only after Congressional oversight, Republicans have blocked Democrats attempts to:

Prevent elected officials from receiving a payout from Trump’s IRS slush fund

Fund special prosecutors at DOJ who” (May 27, 2026).

In a third tweet posted the same day, Watson Coleman expressed concerns about presidential conduct and GOP leadership: “This is the most corrupt President in the history of this nation. GOP leadership is either unwilling or inept in its ability to stand up to Trump, conduct proper oversight, and bring down costs.

Americans deserve real leadership.” (May 27, 2026).

Watson Coleman has served as the representative for New Jersey’s 12th District since replacing Rush Holt Jr. in 2015. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly from 2006 to 2010. Born in Camden, New Jersey in 1945 and currently residing in Ewing Township at age 78, she earned her BA from Thomas Edison State University in 1985.
