Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco’s bill aimed at streamlining promotions within the New Jersey State Police has passed in the state Senate.
The legislation, identified as S-3517, would permit the Superintendent of State Police to adjust the ranks and grades of troopers, detectives, first-line supervisors, mid-level managers, and executive-level personnel without needing approval from the Attorney General. The change is intended to simplify the promotion process and reduce bureaucratic delays.
“By cutting unnecessary red tape, this bill allows the State Police to streamline merit-based promotions,” said Sen. Bucco. “Giving the Superintendent the authority to act without added bureaucracy strengthens leadership within the ranks and ensures critical positions are filled promptly so our troopers have the support they need to do their jobs effectively.”
