The New Jersey Senate has approved a bill sponsored by Senator Jon Bramnick (R-21) that aims to reduce healthcare costs for residents. The legislation requires that discounts negotiated by insurers on prescription drugs be counted toward patients’ out-of-pocket maximums.

Senator Bramnick explained the intent of the measure, stating, “Too many New Jerseyans are paying more than they should for healthcare, even when they do everything right. This commonsense bill ensures that insurer-negotiated discounts count toward a patient’s out-of-pocket maximum, ultimately lowering costs and making healthcare more affordable for patients across our state.”

The full text of the bill, S-3818, is available online.
