The New Jersey Senate has approved a bill sponsored by Senator Vince Polistina aimed at addressing the ongoing shortage of qualified air traffic controllers in the United States. The legislation proposes the creation of a student loan-redemption program to encourage more individuals to enter the field.
In addition to supporting future air traffic controllers, the bill includes provisions for an aviation-education grant program. This initiative would fund drone-training efforts, development of aviation degree programs, participation in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) training opportunities, and related research.
Senator Polistina commented on the importance of the measure: “Our nation is facing a serious shortage of qualified air traffic controllers that threatens safety, efficiency, and the reliability of our air space. By establishing this program, we can help remove a major financial barrier for those who are willing to step up and serve. Investing in the next generation of air traffic controllers is a commonsense way to strengthen aviation safety and support a workforce that is absolutely essential to our economy.”
