Senator Jim Holzapfel’s bill aimed at improving road safety during winter weather events has passed the New Jersey Senate. The legislation permits State or local government vehicles involved in snow removal or road salting to use both amber and green warning lights.
“Keeping motorists and road crews safe during severe winter weather has to be a top priority,” said Senator Holzapfel. “By allowing snowplows and salting vehicles to display both amber and green warning lights, we can give drivers a more-visible notice to help prevent accidents and protect the workers keeping our roads safe.”
Research from other states shows that green lights are more visible than amber lights alone in poor visibility conditions caused by inclement weather. Reports suggest that combining green LED lights with traditional amber lights makes these official vehicles up to six times more noticeable than using only amber light patterns.
