Maxim Rychkov, a member of The College of New Jersey’s (TCNJ) men’s track and field team, is set to compete at the USA Track & Field U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon. This event will be held at the historic Hayward Field. Rychkov will participate in both the 100 and 200-meter sprints.
This marks the second year in a row that TCNJ has had an athlete qualify for this national competition. Last year, Jack Attali represented the Lions in the 110-meter hurdles. Rychkov’s performance could earn him a spot on the USA U20 World team if he finishes among the top six competitors. The World U20 Championships are scheduled to take place in Tokyo, Japan, this September.
Rychkov has had an impressive first season at TCNJ, earning recognition as NJAC’s Outstanding Track Athlete for both indoor and outdoor seasons. He is already a five-time All-American and ranks within the top 20 in Division III for the 100 meters with a time of 10.45 seconds. Additionally, he is one of only nine student-athletes in Division III to run a sub-21-second 200 meters with a time of 20.98 seconds—both times being the fastest in the Metro Region. Among Division III freshmen, he ranks third in the 100 meters and second in the 200 meters.
The preliminary rounds for Rychkov’s events are scheduled with Thursday’s 100-meter prelims at 4:21 p.m., followed by Friday’s 200-meter prelims at 4:20 p.m.
