The TCNJ Lions men’s swimming team had a strong start at the TCNJ Invitational, winning every event on the first day of competition in Ewing, New Jersey. Andrew Kidchob set a new program record in the 100 Backstroke, swimming the opening leg of the 400 Medley Relay in 48.98 seconds. This performance broke his previous school record of 49.06 seconds.
Kidchob was joined by sophomores Tyler McGeehan, Joe McChesney, and M.J. Hoban to complete the relay with a time of 3:16.25, earning an NCAA B cut qualification.
The Lions also secured the top two positions in all championship heats during the day. The meet began with Hoban, McChesney, Gabe Beverini, and Bradley Frank winning the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:22.11. Beverini later won the 200 Individual Medley in 1:51.30 after Gavin Formon took first place in the 500 Free with a time of 4:34.53. Riley Smith added another win for TCNJ in the 50 Free at 21.16 seconds.
At the end of day one, TCNJ led with 425 points—more than double that of Stevens Institute of Technology, which held second place. The Invitational continues tomorrow with preliminaries scheduled for 11:00 AM and finals at 6:00 PM.
