After leading The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) men’s basketball team to a tournament victory and a win over a nationally ranked opponent, Jonathan Okocha has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Player of the Week.
Okocha was instrumental in helping the 24th-ranked Lions secure their third consecutive Greg Grant Tip-Off Tournament title. Over the weekend, he averaged 22.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, shooting 66.7 percent from the field (14-of-21), and making 64.7 percent of his three-point attempts (11-for-17). His performance earned him Tournament MVP honors.
In Friday’s game against CCNY, Okocha scored a career-high 28 points, making eight out of eleven three-pointers in TCNJ’s 106-74 victory. On Saturday night, he contributed 17 points and eight rebounds as TCNJ defeated No. 13 Wesleyan in overtime to claim the tournament title. Over both games, Okocha also recorded four assists, two steals, and made all six of his free throw attempts.
“Okocha played a leading role as the 24th-ranked Lions captured their third straight Greg Grant Tip-Off Tournament title,” according to Monday afternoon’s announcement from NJAC.
