Senator Robert Singer’s bill S-699 was signed into law today by Governor Phil Murphy. The new law is designed to protect private woodlands in New Jersey from future development. Under the legislation, the State Agriculture Development Committee (SADC) will establish a program for landowners with at least 20 acres managed under a forest stewardship plan. These landowners can now place permanent easements or conservation restrictions on their property, which will prevent any future development.
“Protecting our woodlands is important for both the environment and the quality of life of New Jersey residents,” said Senator Singer. “Thanks to the Governor’s signature, these natural spaces remain safe from development while respecting the rights of property owners.”
