Legislation aimed at addressing the shortage of healthcare professionals in New Jersey has moved forward in the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee. The bill, sponsored by Senator Robert Singer (R-Monmouth, Ocean), seeks to make healthcare careers more accessible through student-loan repayment and tuition assistance programs.
“Many people are dissuaded from entering the healthcare field because of the massive debt that accrues just to earn the required education,” said Senator Singer. “By providing much-needed student-loan relief, we can make healthcare careers more accessible in New Jersey while rewarding the professionals who commit to serving our communities.”
The proposed measure would create the Public-Private Alliance to Retain Talent and Expand Regional Health Program. This program would offer grants for student loans and tuition assistance to eligible individuals who work at participating hospitals for a minimum of three years.
Senator Singer’s previous efforts on this issue led to a law expanding loan forgiveness for certain healthcare workers during the last legislative session.
Senator Anthony M. Bucco is also active in legislative matters as Senate Republican Leader, chairing the Senate Judiciary Committee and serving on both the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee according to his official website. He represents New Jersey’s 25th Legislative District and provides constituent services through his district office and email. Bucco sponsors and co-sponsors bills while contributing to committee discussions on key state issues.
