Earlier today, Capital Health announced the immediate closure of its Satellite Emergency Department and outpatient clinic located on Bert Avenue in Trenton. This decision comes after being informed by structural engineers, architects, and demolition experts about significant structural issues with an adjoining building that pose a threat to the safety of the facility.
To ensure the safety of employees, patients, visitors, and students, Capital Health will cease operations at this location. As stated by the health care system, “as of 7 a.m. tomorrow, June 5,” the emergency department will stop accepting patients. The outpatient clinic will close today at 4:30 p.m., redirecting patients to other facilities for medical care.
Capital Health provides alternative options for those needing emergency and acute care services through its two comprehensive emergency departments and inpatient hospitals in Mercer County. These are located at Capital Health Regional Medical Center on Brunswick Avenue in Trenton and Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell on Scotch Road in Pennington.
Emergency medical services (EMS) have been instructed to transport ambulance cases to other nearby emergency departments. Patients with emergencies are advised to call 911 for EMS transport rather than visiting the Hamilton Avenue campus.
For primary or specialty care needs typically served by the now-closed outpatient clinic, patients can visit Capital Health’s locations at 433 Bellevue Avenue or 832 Brunswick Avenue. Patients with inquiries can contact 609.815.7296 for assistance.
