U.S. Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman, who represents New Jersey’s 12th district in Congress, recently posted a series of tweets addressing concerns about press freedom, economic hardship, and cultural identity.
On January 30, 2026, Watson Coleman questioned the actions of federal authorities in a tweet: “Why is HSI, a division of DHS, arresting journalists? DHS and Secretary Noem are out of control.” The post highlights her concern regarding the role of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and its oversight by Secretary Noem.
Later that same day, she turned attention to domestic economic issues. In another tweet dated January 30, 2026, Watson Coleman stated: “Americans are spending more money than ever on food, housing, and childcare. The result is more Americans living in poverty, but this doesn’t have to be our reality. As Chair of the Democratic Caucus Task Force on Poverty, I’m committed to finding solutions to end poverty once”. This message underscores her leadership role in congressional efforts to address poverty.
On February 1, 2026, she marked the beginning of Black History Month with a call for recognition and resilience: “This February, let’s celebrate our identity and culture; the strides made to build this nation and improve our society; and those who continue to push forward despite the challenges we face every day. We may face continuous attacks on our identity and attempts to whitewash our”.
Watson Coleman has served as U.S. Representative for New Jersey’s 12th district since replacing Rush Holt Jr. in 2015. Prior to her tenure in Congress—which began after her service in the New Jersey General Assembly from 2006 to 2010—she was born in Camden in 1945 and currently resides in Ewing Township at age 78. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Thomas Edison State University.
